REACHING OUT TO COMMUNITIES ON ORAL HEALTH

We Reach out to communities around us. Educating both adults and children on the importance of oral health and its relations to total health.

On a beautiful sunny day in Hanover, Dr. Abdul and Dr. Rooz ventured to educate the public about the importance of Oral Health to adults, parents and children. It was great to spend some time educating everyone about how to improve their oral health and in turn improving their overall health.

With the kind help of Ms. LoAn Huynh, we had a fun-filled evening in Randolph’s elementary school playing spin the wheel and giving children prizes for answering fun questions such as “How long are you supposed to brush your teeth?” (Answer: 2 minutes) or “How many times a day should you brush your teeth?” (Answer: 2 times a day). Parents were also delighted to join us in our discussion regarding the recommended age of a child’s first dental visit with the Pediatric Dental Specialist (Answer: 6 months old and up).

GIVING BACK TO OUR ELDERLY

For a large segment of our community, particularly our seniors, oral health education has been lacking. Many of their health needs are unique. Oral health needs specifically are varied secondary to overall health status, drug-drug interactions, and access barriers.

June 2012, Dr. Abdul lectured at the Thomas Crane Library in Quincy to address these issues to a group of attentive seniors. The lecture was held in Cantonese and Mandarin. Particularly worth noting was the question and answer session where an informative discussion helped clarify life-saving and health-preserving concepts.

The event was sponsored by Quincy Asian Resources (QARI) South Shore Elder Services. Representatives from Senior Whole Health was present for Q & A. We are grateful for their support.
